In the week leading up to the fourth edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, SRAM has shared a documentary following the path of 2024 winner Kasia Niewiadoma Phinney.

The film “takes viewers from Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney’s childhood in Poland to the world’s biggest stages. It’s a story about Kasia’s grit, heart, and strength that powers every ride. Hear from the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift champion and those closest to her as they reflect on the successes, setbacks, and spirit that define her journey.”

Sharing a human story

“Before Kasia raced in the world’s biggest cycling events, before she wore the Polish national champion’s jersey or stood on the top step of the podium at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, she was just a kid trying to win a bet with her dad.”

Women’s pro cycling

As media coverage has increased and sponsorship has expanded, a growing number of events on the women’s calendar have seen women racing on a variety of terrain. Grand Tours. Classics. Gravel races.

Beyond the massive influence of Zwift, as the title sponsor of the Tour de France femmes avec Zwift, race organisers Flanders Classics have been active in prioritising women’s racing, with CEO Tomas Van Den Spiegel and team deciding to run the men’s editions of flagship Classics races before the women’s races. Result: Massive crowds. Impressive media coverage. Strong sponsorship partnerships. Women’s races shown off in the best possible way.

All of this has been critical to expanding the number of events Flanders Classic has been able to put on. A commercially sound business decision which has directly uplifted women’s racing opportunities.

With media coverage and event sponsors come team and rider sponsorship. Naturally enough, this leads us to the subject of riders being paid a wage – I know, it sounds obvious, for a professional sport, but is still not something to take for granted.

Beyond the sports superstars, being paid to ride is (as of 2020) a UCI Women’s WorldTour (WWT) contractual requirement. At Women’s ProTeam and Continental Team level, the requirement to pay a wage (a stipulated minimum amount) is there, but the amount on offer isn’t a ‘living wage’. In 2025. Abby Mickey explored the topic of pay for a recent Escape Collective feature.

Representation and a strong, independent, voice

The Cyclists’ Alliance (TCA) is the independent voice of women’s professional cycling that represents and supports female riders from around the world. Founded and led by former and current professional cyclists, TCA provides resources to help riders succeed both on and off the bike.

Should we be ‘grateful’ for any coverage?

Regrettably, some old challenges remain – live coverage of races starting long after race winning break aways have formed: Yes, that still happens. More often that we’d like to admit.

Remember when the local organising committee for the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships decided – at the last minute – that there would be no live coverage at all for the women’s race!

And then there’s the irony of an RCS Sports owned Women’s Giro d’Italia being almost invisible, whilst the ASO owned Men’s edition of the TdF shows for free, for the last time, in the UK.

Visibility is critical.

And it’s for this reason that BikeBiz, not known as a media outlet that covers athletes and events, is sharing ‘Kasia. The Polish Champion. A documentary.’

Yes, the media landscape is changing (and, if you’re in print or online, extremely challenging). But… and it’s a massive BUT….. women’s sports are thriving. Football (soccer), rugby, cricket, have all set records for attendance, and seen massive increases in participation.

If cycling is to join this group, which our industry desperately needs to – genuinely new riders / customers – then it’s up to us to showcase our stars, their supporters, the events teams, the media partners, and those pioneering early sponsors.

Ochain – known for its game-changing chainring spider that delivers a chainless-feeling ride – has been acquired by SRAM.

Initially conceived as a product for downhill racing, Ochain has rapidly grown from a prototype to a World Cup staple. Mounted between a bike’s cranks and chainring, Ochain allows the chainring to freely rotate by a certain amount without the cranks moving, creating a ‘chainless’ feeling.

Italian DH racer Loris Revelli was the first rider using Ochain in World Cup racing in 2019. “It’s hard to explain until you ride it—the bike feels like it floats more, like butter over rocks. Now, I run Ochain on every bike I own, even my e-bike—it’s that good.”

Beyond elite racing, it quickly became clear that almost any rider could use it, on everything from downhill race rigs to long-travel e-bikes and even lightweight trail bikes.

With a bike’s suspension freer to do its thing and its transmission able to float smoothly, the result is a calmer, quieter bike. Countless downhill and enduro World Cup racers use Ochain on many bike models and brands.

“The idea was to have a component that simulates the chainless feeling with the possibility to pedal”, said Fabrizio Dragoni, founder of Ochain.

After founding the company in 2019, Dragoni and his team have taken Ochain through multiple product iterations. Dragoni will continue to lead the brand from a new dedicated facility in Italy.

“We started thinking about how to make descending better through drivetrain development,” said Flynn George, Product Manager at SRAM. “We found that Ochain delivered unmatched improvements in traction, stability, and ride feel. It quiets down the chassis, reducing auditory feedback and pedal feedback. On the trail, that means improved traction and control.”

The next generation of SRAM‘s Force and Rival AXS groupsets has arrived in both Road and XPLR configurations – four new groupsets in one launch.

Straight away, it’s clear that the shifter ergonomics from SRAM Red – launched 11 months ago – are now available across the entire range being introduced: A move which will immediately win fans, if post-launch owner-based reviews of the Red groupset are taken as a guide. Hopefully, the shifter hood covers – arguably the only grumble from that Red launch – are now better fitting.

SRAM NICE BLANCHARD 3190 SRAM launch next gen Force and Rival Road and XPLR groupsets

Beyond the ergonomics, it’s the AXS integration and compatibility that will have many excited. Integration and configuration are a major part of SRAM AXS’ appeal, and the newly introduced groupsets are, the launch announcement highlights, no different.

Across the four groupset range launched today, “one-finger braking, refined ergonomics, faster shifting, and lighter weight” make the headline news.

Of that braking performance, levers sporting an optimised pivot point and repositioned reservoir reportedly deliver an 80% reduction in effort than previously, when stopping from the hoods. As with the Red launch reviews, we’ve no reason to question the claim. Those who’ve ridden and reviewed the horizontal piston housed levers report a notable performance upgrade when compared with the previous design.

That said, levers can’t take all the credit. We’re told that “stiffer callipers” play a significant role in upgrading the stopping power, and, importantly, lever feel.

Naturally enough, Force gets some of the bells and whistles found on Red, whilst Rival makes it happen in a slightly more weighty, slightly less feature-rich, fashion.

SRAM NICE BLANCHARD 5538 SRAM launch next gen Force and Rival Road and XPLR groupsets

Quick standouts here are Force shifters sporting Bonus Buttons – which provide ANT+ device control (Hammerhead Karoo, here’s looking at you) or auxiliary shift option – whilst Rival does without these. Possibly of more interest, depending on your use case, both Force and Rival sport carbon levers – and come with the same Reach Adjust feature.

As was noted on the Red launch, the front derailleur cage is narrower than in previous iterations, possibly playing a role in that increased shifting speed claim, with auto trim now appearing on both Force and Rival.

The beauty of SRAM AXS has always been its configurability, in 2x or 1x. Road, Gravel, and MTB, offer riders a wide cassette range, making it easy to configure a bike for almost any application.

One area that does require specificity is chain selection, where SRAM highlights that both Force and Rival chains are compatible with 12-speed road and 13-speed XPLR AXS dropbar groupsets.

For those loving a nostalgic ’90s MTB vibe, the Force chain is also available in purple.  Keeping purple purple will definitely make this an option that appeals strongly to the more fastidious bike owner: Cat 4 tattoo fans need not apply.

Cranksets are available from 160mm all the way to 175mm in length, across 1x and 2x configurations.

DT RIV 2x 1036 SRAM launch next gen Force and Rival Road and XPLR groupsets

It’s here that we see the one detail which didn’t make it into the January leak. As was anticipated, Force remains largely unchanged, graphics aside, whilst, Rival now sports an entirely new look, with chain rings which mimic elements of the aesthetic found on Red and Force, paired with an entirely unique, new, crank arm design.

The range continues to enjoy crank arm and spider/chainring-based power meter options, with SRAM crank arm-based power at price points which have made choosing SRAM AXS components even more compelling – especially if numbers and data are important to you as a rider.

Critically, Quarq reliability and accuracy have, historically, been strong factors – something important when really depending on Watts for dosing and measuring training effectiveness.

Panaracer Dirty Reiver 2025 logo

This year, Zyrofisher are bringing seven brands along to offer support to all riders tackling the extensive forest access road network in the Northern English Borders.

As one of  Europe’s highest profile (and longest!) gravel events ZyroFisher are incredibly proud to be  partners of Dirty Reiver on the great occasion of its 10th year.

With the Panaracer flag flying high on Keilder Castle as title sponsor, Camelbak presenting  and Selle San Marco and Unior as event partners (with the latter offering mechanical  assistance) we truly believe that supporting the event and all its participants is the perfect  place for us to deliver our mission of connecting the rider to the world’s premium brands.  We see many familiar faces year after year which serves as great testament to the event,  the organisation and the course and we look forward to seeing them again next year for the  10th edition! – Tony Vickers, Head of Brands at ZyroFisher

ZyroFisher Brands at the Dirty Reiver

Panaracer

Part of the event since 2015 and headline sponsor since 2023, Panaracer will be back at  Kielder with ambassadors Bec Whitfield and Joe Laverick.  At the stand, riders can check out the world’s best gravel tyres, competitions, and the new  2025 Limited Colour Edition GravelKings, Honey Butter and Cranberry.

Those visiting the stand during the weekend are also invited to take part in two challenges:  spin the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ to win freebies and the ‘Tyre Change Challenge’, for a chance to win the fastest tyre change of the day. All participants will be entered into a prize draw to win one entry to the 2026 Dirty Reiver. The fastest person to change a tyre on Friday will also win one pair of Panaracer GravelKing tyres of their choice.

Selle San Marco

Using the idmatch Smart Calliper, riders will be able to get sized for their perfect fit, plus demo a saddle on their own bike ahead of Saturday’s main event. The perfect opportunity to try out Selle San Marco’s Design & Innovation Award-winning Mantra saddle, recognised as a benchmark in off-road cycling performance.

Camelbak

Along with exclusive event offers, Camelbak will trade new Dirty Reiver branded MultiBev and Podium bottles, which were a sellout success at last year’s event.

Unior

Unior mechanics will be offering Neutral Tech Support throughout the event to make sure competitors’ rides are Reiver-ready.

SRAM

Event participants are invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and hang out in the SRAM chillout lounge while one of their expert SRAM Tech mechanics checks over their ride. Riders are also invited to join them for a warmup ride out on Friday afternoon.

Fenwicks

Fenwicks will be running the bike wash back at the finish line to make sure everyone’s bikes get packed away sparkling clean.

Red Bull

Will be sure to keep all riders ‘flying’ and fuelled all weekend.

The support and belief that ZyroFisher and its many brands we have partnered with over  the past 9 years for Dirty Reiver, as well as a number of our other events, has and continues  to play an important part in the overall experience we provide our riders.

Activating leading brands from across the industry at the Dirty Reiver not only provides  ZyroFisher with a great way to get its brands in front of target customers in the real world  environment of gravel events, but it also adds further credibility around the event itself  through education and inspiration for our riders, as well as keeping everyone riding if the  unfortunate forgotten item from your kit bag risks curtailing your ride even before it’s begun!

Panaracer have supported the event since its infancy showing their commitment and  leadership within gravel. With their new X1 range they continue to innovate and maintain  their position at the forefront of this category and are the first choice for many of our Dirty  Reiver riders. So, we thank all the team for their continued support and look forward to many  years of collaboration ahead – Neil Atkinson, Focal Events Co-Director.

The UK Home of SRAM

This piece first appeared in the January edition of BikeBiz magazine – not subscribed? Get a free subscription.

For more than a decade, SRAM has operated a dedicated facility servicing the needs of UK bike shops and manufacturers.

Initially launched in 2010, the Technical Centre operated out of Winkfield, Windsor for 13 years before relocating under the roof of its sole UK distributor, ZyroFisher in September 2023.

Now, distribution, dealer support, the Technical Centre and the SRAM Technical University all work alongside each other at the same site, a move described as “hugely important” by Neil Davidson, SRAM brand manager at ZyroFisher.

 SRAM Technical Centre

“Consumers and dealers who ride and sell SRAM product should have confidence that the product support is second to none,” he continues.

“We believe bringing these services in-house at ZyroFisher means we’re better able to provide this high level of service.”

At the heart of the Tech Centre’s vision is the desire to provide “first class” service and support of SRAM products for dealers and manufacturers.

The dedicated SRAM team have a passion for cycling and support the UK with warranty, training, and product service support for all SRAM brands, including SRAM, RockShox, Hammerhead, Truvativ, Zipp, Quarq, Avid and Time.

 SRAM Technical Centre

“It gives us more opportunity than ever before to engage with dealers in the UK,” adds Davidson, when discussing how the move benefits dealers.

“Bringing the tech centre in-house gives the team more time to work on the product and communicate with dealers and end consumers.”

On the visit, BikeBiz followed a RockShox Pike from the moment it arrived in the warehouse, through its 50-hour service, and then prepared for dispatch back to the retailer.

When submitting a product SRAM service/warranty, a ticket is created and allocated a unique SRT number.

The SRT number is more than just admin as it allows the retailer who created the ticket to follow the product through each stage of the process via their account.

Once through the doors of the Technical Centre, the RockShox Pike is checked against the in-house system for the required service, cleaned and inspected for any signs of obvious damage and then tested for any knocks.

 SRAM Technical Centre

All clear, so onto the service. On this occasion, it’s a fairly straightforward procedure taking around 20 minutes, including picking the necessary service kit from the kitted-out shelving units conveniently located next door.

After a final test on the custom-made rig, it’s ready to be carefully packed before heading back through the warehouse doors for dispatch.

Best of all, the retailer can track each step of the process without needing to call.

With up to six technicians working at a time, the team can complete a significant amount of work, resolving an average of 20 to 30 tickets each day.

“We’ve had a lot of great feedback from dealers, especially around the communication they receive from the Tech Centre,” adds Davidson.

“The team is really proactive in trying to make sure dealers are kept up to date with outstanding warranty and service cases.”

SRAM Technical University

Housed in the same facility at ZyroFisher is the SRAM Technical University, or STU for short.

STU is a SRAM-supported worldwide initiative with locations in Colorado Springs, Indianapolis, Schweinfurt, Germany, Nijkerk, Netherlands, Chambery, France, Melbourne, Australia, and of course, Darlington, UK.

The UK site is led by Toby Hockley, and is dedicated to empowering bicycle retailers and their staff with the knowledge and skills to service and talk SRAM products within the market.

 SRAM Technical Centre

Comprehensive programmes combine online and in-person training, offering a learning experience that equips participants with expertise in SRAM products, including features, benefits, installation, maintenance, and repair.

“The addition of the SRAM Technical University means that SRAM are more tapped into the dealer network than ever before,” explains Davidson.

“Offering a range of courses [is] giving our dealers the opportunity to introduce additional revenue-generating services to their businesses.”

STU Online introduces an avenue of communication for bicycle retailers and their staff who want to learn more at their own pace and on their schedule without the need to travel.

The education ranges from product introductions to the how and why behind the brand’s technologies, and a deep dive look at how these products function.

There are webinars for MTB, Road and Gravel products, including; Sag Set Up, Flight Attendant, Transmission Set Up, Maven Deep Dive, 50 Hour Fork and Shock servicing, Drop Bar brake bleeding, AXS Component Compatibility, Front Mech Set Up, XPLR Overview, and a lot more.

Retailers and mechanics can further their knowledge from STU Online with immersive, hands-on in-person experiences at the fully-equipped site.

 SRAM Technical Centre

Currently, Hockley offers a Suspension Service Introduction Course, as well as a Service 101 for mechanics with at least one year of experience, and a Service 202 for those who have either completed 101 or are currently basic suspension services.

There is also the opportunity to create bespoke courses and webinars, anyone considering this option should get in touch with Hockley directly.

For more information about SRAM, retailers should contact their ZyroFisher account manager.

Specialized has chosen the launch of the new SRAM Red AXS as a platform to introduce its S-Works LTD collection, spanning the brand’s 3 carbon fibre framed road bikes.

In the UK, this means Tarmac LTD and Aethos LTD will be introduced, including frameset options, with limited edition paint schemes. Other markets will also see Roubaix LTD options.

The Morgan Hill, California, based brand is keen to point out that this represents, “The best-performance road line in the world meets the lightest electronic groupset ever created – the new SRAM RED AXS – a match made in cycling heaven.”

With the Tarmac SL8 considered the fastest race bike in the world (Specialized points to the “data-obsessed engineers at Tour Magazine” in support of this claim), and the brand claiming nothing is smoother than the Roubaix SL8 (“53% smoother than the nearest competitor”), there’s not much contention when it comes to 585-grams of Aethos frame. Numbers are numbers.

Much of the news around the launch of the new halo groupset has focused on the weight, or lack thereof. Fair to say dropping 154g (2,650 Vs 2,496) is progress: Weight matters to the pros, and to those building their own dream road bike build. That this weight includes what is widely considered to be an accurate, consistent, power meter is certainly impressive.

For the recreational athletes who’ll make up the large majority of riders paying their own money, it’s the 10-36 cassette which is the biggest news here (and, interestingly, has already been spotted on the first significant mountain stage of this years Giro d’Italia).

Making this ratio range work is an equally impressive 1X or 2X compatible rear derailleur – something which might suggest the AXS Road, Gravel, MTB cross compatibility theme continues even on the top of the range SRAM road groupset. Or, it could just be the exclusive preserve of 1 X TT rigs.

SRAM has unveiled a completely redesigned Red groupset with fully wireless connectivity and expanded gearing choices.

AAdditional new features include accurate and reliable power measurement, new shift points, and more brake adjustability, while still shaving grams off every component to provide the brand’s lightest electronic groupset to-date.

Red AXS HRD Shift-Brake System

SRAM has overhauled its hood and lever architecture and achieved breakthroughs for fit across all hand sizes and easy access to more powerful and smoother braking from anywhere on the bar.

Independent reach and contact point adjustment allow for a personalised setup, with no risk of pinching fingers or bottoming out on the bar.

Better finger wrap on the hood means less fatigue, and Bonus Buttons let the rider shift or control ANT+ devices with their thumbs. The caliper is not only stiffer, but lighter too, with increased pad clearance for rub-free operation.

SR RED AXS Italy 240228 CS 365A0563 L New SRAM Red AXS groupset unveiled

Red AXS Front Derailleur

According to SRAM, the updated front derailleur offers faster and more reliable shifting with “silent running” across the whole cassette.

The Red AXS front derailleur uses Yaw technology with electronic trim to ensure the fastest possible shift while eliminating chain rub in all combinations, with an easier setup, thanks to a new tool.

It is compatible with 46/33T, 48/35T, 50/37T, 52/39T, 54/41T, and 56/43T chainring combos.

SR RED AXS Italy 240228 CS 365A2266 L New SRAM Red AXS groupset unveiled

Red AXS Rear Derailleur

The rear derailleur is the heart of the AXS ecosystem and is lighter, more efficient, and more capable. Covering cassette ranges from 10-28T up to 10-36T, this wireless setup has larger pulleys to decrease chain articulation and increase efficiency, and an Orbit fluid damper to keep everything in place over the rough stuff. One derailleur ready for 1x or 2x, on road or off.

SR RED AXS Italy 240228 CS 365A2456 L New SRAM Red AXS groupset unveiled

Red AXS Power Meter

The choice of SRAM’s top professionals, the brand’s lightest, stiffest, and most accurate integrated power meter and chainring combo just got lighter with a new carbon crankarm construction.

The SRAM power meter is accurate to +/-1.5% and isn’t affected by temperature changes, and the consistent 13-tooth gap on the rings ensures reliable shifting.

Integrated rings are also long-lasting and SRAM offers more crankarm lengths than ever before to ensure the right fit. · Available in 160, 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5, and 175 mm lengths.

Also available in a carbon crankarm construction as Red 1 AXS Power Meter.

SR RED AXS Italy 240228 CS 365A3573 1 L New SRAM Red AXS groupset unveiled

Red Crankset

A new optimised layup drops 29g from SRAM’s hollow carbon arms, and to stay on top of current fit trends the brand has added its first carbon 160 mm crankarm length option.

The X-Range gearing minimises cadence changes during front shifts.

Red XG-1290 Cassette

Four distinct cassette options, including SRAM’s first 10-30T and 10-36T Red cassettes, each provide secure shift ramps specifically designed for electronic shifting, whether racing road on a 10-28T or creating an all-road setup with a 10-36T.

Specifically chosen tooth jumps keep the rider in the right gear when out of the saddle on steep climbs and making fine changes to hold a wheel while approaching a sprint.

Available in 10-28T, 10-30T, 10-33T and 10-36T and the rainbow colorway available in all sizes

Red Chain

HollowPin construction is lighter and stronger than a solid pin, and cutouts in the outer and inner plates drop 13g from the previous generation.

To support the launch of the new SRAM Red groupset, Hammerhead has released its latest Karoo cycling computer.

According to the brand, it features comprehensive structured workout support, industry-leading navigation, and an all-new Companion App and Dashboard that allow the user to manage the Karoo without removing it from the handlebars.

The key to this launch is Karoo’s control of the bike’s connected components, from SRAM AXS products to e-bikes to ANT+ lights.

Karoo features a smartphone-like screen with industry-leading display for colourful visualisations and intuitive configurations of ride data and maps.

Designed to reduce downtime while riding, Karoo benefits from 64GB of memory, 4GB of RAM, and extended battery life providing more maps, faster map rendering, and longer uptime.

Multi-band GNSS technology gives pin-point accuracy on any path, whether in crowded cities, tight singletrack, tree covered trails, or anywhere in between.

Riders can choose their preferred surface-specific routing type (road, MTB, gravel) and explore new paths with one of the best-in-class maps and navigation, including free global maps, instant route syncing from connected accounts, and automatic climb detection with — or without — a route.

As can be expected, Hammerhead claims that the Karoo offers “unparalleled” connectivity with SRAM AXS products allowing for easier customisation, better equipment awareness, and simple pairing with groupsets, power meters, tyre pressure sensors, and more.

Karoo’s support for ANT+ radars and lights make it easier than ever to be safe on the road in any riding condition

Users can also pair Karoo to an e-bike and access LEV e-bike data fields such as motor assist level, estimated range, e-bike motor output, and e-bike battery level

Regular software updates are expected to introduce new features and improvements to Karoo, keeping it at the forefront of the cycling ecosystem.

The UK Trail Project* is a UK-wide project which aims to help improve the sustainability and security of the mountain bike trail network across the country.

The first step of the project is to develop a UK-wide ‘Right Trail, Right Place, Right People, Right Time’ report through an audit of the current number and position of trails, trail groups and associations in each country providing a deeper understanding of the current challenges and opportunities to improve the management of the trail network.

The survey closes at midnight on Wednesday, May 15, and the UK Trails Project team is urging every MTB rider, trail builder, trail association member, bike park/trail centre manager and land owner or manager to complete the feedback, to help ensure this audit is a true picture of the UK trail network.

Input from across the industry is helping to build a comprehensive picture of what are people riding, what makes an area great and what could be improved throughout the UK.

With this in mind, BikeBiz is encouraging readers to share the surveys with industry colleagues, and riding friends.

Launched in March, the survey has received over 1000 replies which will inform the report and create an improved understanding of the breadth and types of trails across the UK.

The report will also detail the pressures and challenges associated with supporting the trail network, particularly, for land managers/owners.

Dave Evans DMBinS UK Trails project manager said: “We would like to thank riders, trail builders and land managers from across the UK for taking the time to complete the online surveys to tell us more about their trails. We want to get a broad picture of the types of trail provision around the UK and by identifying gaps in the trail network, we can look at options to improve resources across the country.”

*Scottish Cycling, through Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), manages this project, and is supported by a steering group including British Cycling, Welsh Cycling, Forestry and Land Scotland, Forestry England, Natural Resources Wales, and Outscape Northern Ireland along with the project funders, SRAM.
