Canadian brand Argon 18 has introduced what it is, in effect, describing as the Swiss Army Knife of gravel bikes with the launch of the all-new 2025 Dark Matter.

How can one bike do almost all for gravel fans? First up, there’s the 57mm tyre clearance. Then there’s the Integrated storage. Add to this “adventure-specific geometry” and you likely get the picture.

The launch announcement states, “We know adventure gravel throws a lot at you: ruts and rocks, washboard and washouts, remote single track and dusty country roads. No matter what the adventure has in store, the all-new 2025 Dark Matter lets you get over it.”

So far, so gravel. Exploring the details, what’s highlighted includes:

  • A 100-150 gram weight savings over the previous version.
  • Multi-location mounting points
  • Integrated storage
  • Optimised for a 1x drivetrain.
  • Ability to run a 2x drivetrain, suspension fork, or dropper post, making the bike adaptable to the way gravel riders want to ride.

“Gravel riders define their own roads and require versatility in a bike, so that they can go wherever the ride takes them,” says Alexandre Coté, product director at Argon 18. “The new Dark Matter prepares you for the unscripted and unmapped. It’s not just about performance—it’s about purpose.”

The Dark Matter has been designed and engineered as “a high-performance gravel bike” with an emphasis on being “made to take on the tough stuff”.

If all this ‘performance’ talk is making you question how this Dark Matter will fare when loaded for multiday bikepacking, the brand points to “Adventure-specific geometry balances long-distance comfort with control, aiming to provide confidence even when the road surface changes radically”.

A18 DARKMATTER2025 LIFESTYLEE10 Argon 18 introduces the all new 2025 Dark Matter

The 2025 Dark Matter has, we’re told, “been designed to achieve specific handling characteristics” with a longer wheelbase and longer chainstays than the previous version, and also a slightly longer reach (between 5-15mm, size dependent) and higher stack (10mm). The head tube angle is also one degree slacker than earlier versions.

“The Dark Matter is a versatile but fast gravel bike. Whether bikepacking or riding full gas, this bike can handle it all,” says pro gravel rider Danni Shrosbree.

With integrated downtube storage and multiple mounting points for bottles, racks, and fenders, “the Dark Matter can go fully loaded for the long haul—or stripped back for maximum speed”.

At launch, the 2025 Dark Matter is available in three build specs:

Shimano GRX at £3,500, SRAM Rival XPLR AXS at £4,500, and SRAM Force XPLR AXS at £6,500.

UK retailers interested in exploring the Argon 18 range and hearing more about the Dark Matter should contact UK sales manager, Alex Croucher, via alex.croucher@argon18.com

Argon 18 is stepping up with a refreshed road/all-road line-up for 2025, with new premium builds for both the flagship road racer, the Sum Pro, and the Krypton Pro, leading the brand’s all-road segment.

Argon 18’s premium road race bike, the Sum Pro, will see two new colourways and build upgrades with SRAM Red AXS with powermeter and Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 options, with the Di2 build also featuring the Scope Artech A4 wheelset and Vision Metron 5D integrated cockpit.

With these components, the Di2 Sum Pro comes in at 6.6kg (medium).

With its aero tube shapes – including the distinctive hourglass headtube and draft-deflecting fork – and lightweight engineering, the Sum Pro brings together the best of Argon 18’s road-race expertise.

“The Sum Pro is the most responsive bike I’ve ever ridden,” says pro cyclist Andrea Perron from Team Novo Nordisk.

“I really feel it when I’m descending, and when sprinting, the power transfer is unmatched. The technology in the sport is constantly evolving, so it’s essential that we keep up. With the Sum Pro, we’re at the forefront.”

Meanwhile, the Sum features the same features with a slightly modified layup, now available with SRAM Force AXS and Shimano Ultegra Di2 options.

“The Sum line gives road riders the best of both worlds: engineered for the climbs, with the power transfer and aero performance for sprints,” says Vincent Lemay, vice president R&D at Argon 18.

“With classic road-race looks and handling, the new 2025 versions reaffirm our commitment to giving our riders the best in high-performance engineering.”

The all-road side of the line-up also features new colours and builds for 2025, with the Krypton Pro sporting new SRAM Red AXS and Force AXS – both with powermeters, and the Krypton adding Ultegra Di2 as well as Force AXS builds.

“The Krypton Pro has proven itself to be far more than simply capable of tackling every surface: it’s proven itself to deliver best performance in all conditions,” adds Alexandre Coté, director of product management at Argon 18.

“Meanwhile the Krypton has become the bike of choice for those who want to be ready for any adventure, any day, on any road. It’s the perfect choice for those who want one bike to take on all challenges.

“Overall, this is a performance-minded line-up update that’s a taste of what Argon 18 will present in 2025.”

Argon 18 has introduced the Equation, a value-laden performance carbon road bike.

Featuring Argon 18’s Endurance geometry, the Equation offers a classic road bike design with modern elements like full cable integration, multiple mounting points and clearance for 32c tyres.

“The Equation brings Argon 18’s racing DNA and classic road design to a competitively-priced carbon frame,” says Patrick Flaherty CRO at Argon 18.

“We’re happy to give more riders the chance to experience an unmatched ride quality, designed with decades of meticulous engineering expertise behind it.”

The Equation features a host of Argon 18’s technologies, including the 3D system, allowing a higher stack for head tube adjustment, without compromising stiffness.

It also benefits from Argon’s Topological Compliance System (TCS), a proprietary design method to offer vertical compliance and dampened road-induced vibrations while retaining stiffness.

Alex Côté, director of product at Argon 18, adds: “The combination of exceptional handling and performance with proven Argon 18 technologies means we’re offering premium performance in a value-packed modern road bike.

“Designed with the same attention to detail and focus on performance as our pro-level bikes, the Equation provides exceptional ride quality and reliability for all riders.”

Attendees to the 2024 edition of COREbike will find Argon 18 exhibiting at Whittlebury for the first time, with the Argon 18 team taking a dedicated space.

This follows on from the brand introducing its direct-to-retail model, and appointment of a UK sales manager, in the second half of 2023.

For the Canadian brand, now heading into the 35th year, the focus on producing performance focused bicycles, and related components, for road, triathlon, gravel and track bikes, is underlined by a strong endurance sports focused ambassador line up including Dan Martin, Mark Beaumont, and Ironman athletes Ruth Astle and Joe Skipper. The brand also provides bikes for Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team.

The brand has built a strong following of riders on these shores, and is looking to expand its UK dealer network over the next year to continue to build on that success.

“We are excited to be attending COREbike. It is a great launch pad for our direct to retail program and will give us the opportunity to interact with both new and old retailers.  Our 2024 line up is very strong and our program offers something new and exciting for the retailers.  We are passionate about what we do and that passion comes through when you ride an Argon18,” comments Alex Croucher, UK sales manager.

Alex Croucher UK sales manager, Argon 18. Profile picture.“There have already been some important product developments this year with the super versatile Krypton fully updated and redesigned to keep at the forefront of the all-road segment. And the new

Argon 18’s continued growth in the UK has led to the introduction of a direct-to-retail model and appointment of a dedicated sales manager for these shores.

This move is hoped to make Argon 18’s bikes more accessible to a wider audience through the growth of its UK dealer base. With a current network of 35 dealers across the country, the Canadian brand is hoping to double this moving forward.

Alex Croucher Argon 18 takes UK distribution in-house and appoints dedicated sales manager
Alex Croucher

To assist with the transition to a new model, Argon 18 has appointed Alex Croucher as UK sales manager.

The brand sees this as a “significant milestone” that shows its commitment to the UK market.

Argon 18 is headquartered in Quebec, where its R&D lab is also located, and its European headquarters and assembly and quality inspection facility in Lynge, Denmark serves to enable the efficient management of the European business.

The company already operates a direct-to-dealer model in North America – while in Europe, a hybrid version including a mix of direct to consumers via click and collect and direct to dealers is in place. In all other markets the brand works with local distributors.

Thue Herager, Argon 18 sales director Europe, said: “The introduction of a direct-to-retail model in the UK will enable enhanced customer experiences and the development of stronger partnerships with British bike shops.

“This will help us to streamline our distribution process, reduce lead times, and improve overall customer satisfaction.

“By eliminating intermediaries, we will engage directly with our retailer network, ensuring a seamless flow of information, quick order processing, and efficient customer support.”

Martin Le Sauteur, CEO of Argon 18, added: “We are incredibly excited about our direct-to-retail expansion in the UK.

“We have seen a lot of success with this model already in North America and since the UK is one of our strongest markets in Europe, we are prepared to invest in it and hopefully see some positive results that we can then take to other markets in the future”.

The Cycle Show 2019 is currently taking place, starting yesterday, 12th September, running until 15th.

The show is at the NEC Birmingham with many brands and distributors exhibiting, including ZyroFisher at stand 2-B60, B50, B30, B20. Its brands on show include Argon 18, Look, Selle San Marco, SRAM and Tacx, amongst others.

Argon 18 is showcasing the Galleon Pro disc 15th Anniversary edition, which has had a ‘major makeover’. Lighter frameset, new fork designed for DT Swiss type 12mm thru-axle, direct mount rear derailleur hanger are key technical aspects of this new version of the bike. A direct mount rear derailleur hanger offers industry-standard compatibility, and standard 30mm tyre clearance provides comfort with no compromise in speed. The bike features the original 2005 logo and Gervais Rioux’s signature.

Originally launched in 2005, the latest Gallium Pro iteration was introduced at the Criterium du Dauphiné in June 2017 where it was ridden to two stage victories and a GC title. It’s gone on to a streak of victories including stage victories in all the Grand Tours, GC podium finishes at both the Giro and La Vuelta, a stint in Yellow at the TDF 2017, wins in the Spring Classics, National titles as well as multiple podiums in stage races around the world.

Argon 18 Cycle Show 2019: ZyroFisher

The brand was also showing the Krypton Pro. This bike is designed for those who have been “on a quest for the perfect ride”. “An exceptional, no compromise bike meant for cyclists, amateurs and pros who want to ride, and ride, and ride; comfortably, anywhere, on any type of road.”

The Krypton Pro hits 870g (medium, painted frame) through new pro-level layup development to optimise placement and selection of material. The distinct vibration-dampening characteristics of the layup are the result of a unique test method, designed to quantify road feedback experienced by the rider.

Look was also exhibiting its new gravel bike and new e-road bike, the 765 Gravel RS and the E-765 Optimum.

The brand also has some pedals, including the Keo Blade Carbon Ceramic. Its new design completely integrates the blade for “unrivalled aerodynamics”. Equipped with a carbon body and blade, the Blade Carbon Ceramic is available in a CrMo version (Chromoly spindle) for a weight of 110g per pedal. It is available in three tension release levels: 12,16 and 20. Look has also revealed Keo Blade Carbon Ceramic Ti.

Earlier this month, the brand announced the Geo-Trekking pedal range, Geo-Trekking, Geo-Trekking Grip and Geo-Trekking ROC, designed to meet the needs of riders from the urban commuter to the e-mountain bike rider. Its dual-sided design offers maximum versatility for riders that don’t want to choose between the performance and security of a clipless pedal and convenience of a flat pedal with each ride.
