7mesh is growing in Japan with the opening of a new brand shop in the Layover Kanamachi development in Eastern Tokyo.
This new multi-use complex combines rental apartments with boutique retail and the iconic Tokyo roastery of Bicycle Coffee, which has been combining a love of bikes and coffee since being founded in Oakland, California, in 2009.
The retail component of the development has been carefully curated by Japanese outdoor agency Sunwest, whose offices occupy the second floor alongside space dedicated to partner brands like Evergoods, Miir, POINT6, and eno Hammock to deliver Sunwest’s vision of “the surprise of learning, the joy of choosing, and the satisfaction of purchasing and using.”
Sunwest CEO Kenichi Ueda comments: “What I wanted to create in Tokyo is not just a shop to purchase 7mesh products, but a way to share the vision of 7mesh with Japanese customers–not only for product functionality but also the emotions of exploring the lifestyle through adventures.”
Showcasing the full 7mesh range of apparel for exploring the outdoors, the 7mesh brand shop fits seamlessly into the Layover Kanamachi experience.
Visitors can enjoy coffee, craft beer, and food while exploring unique brands which create superior and distinct outdoor products, including luggage and accessories, flasks and bottles, camping gear, and technical apparel.
Spanning eight stories, Layover Kanamachi was built with seismic-resistant concrete with a Shogo Sasaki-led design of SARC Planning Institute-led design which focuses on a dynamic flow between uses. Its neighbourhood is located near the Edogawa River and Mizumoto Park, Tokyo’s biggest riverside park, to balance outdoor recreation with one of the world’s great cities.
“Opening our first brand shop in Japan is a proud milestone for 7mesh,” said 7mesh VP Sales Andrew Sherry.
“Layover Kanamachi is more than just a retail location—it’s a vibrant community hub where adventure, design, and culture come together. Partnering with our long-term partner Sunwest allows us to share the 7mesh experience in a space that celebrates discovery and quality. We’re excited to be part of this community and to connect with new riders and adventurers in Tokyo.”
CEO Tyler Jordan added: “We’re super excited to achieve this milestone with our friends Kenichi, Satoshi, and the entire Sunwest team. Our friendship goes back 30 years to when we first started building Arc’teryx together in Japan, and now, of course, 7mesh.”
