Bike Mechanic & Sales Assistant

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Bike Mechanic & Sales Assistant to join our Lewes team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of an extension or additional hours. This is a dual role requiring both mechanical expertise and strong customer service skills. While primarily based in Lewes, you may occasionally be required to work at our Eastbourne or Hastings stores.
Key responsibilities for the bike mechanic include carrying out bike servicing, diagnostics, and repairs to a high standard. Assemble and prepare new bikes for sale. Advise customers on maintenance and repair options. Ensure the workshop is well-stocked, clean, and organised.
Sales & customer service duties include assist customers in choosing the right bike, accessories, and equipment. Process sales transactions and handle customer queries. Provide expert advice on bike fitting and general cycling needs. Maintain a well-presented and stocked retail space.
We are currently recruiting for an Experienced sales person (full-time or part-time) to join our bike shop. This is a very unique opportunity as Mud Dock typically runs a very low staff turnover, as we like to stick around. As well as helping our Store Manager keeping your team engaged and motivated, you will need to embrace a real passion and understanding of cycling along with trends and new tech. You maintain the efficient and effective operational day-to-day running of the store as well as leading your sales team from the front.
Our expectations are that the ideal candidate with have the following attributes. Possess a proven record of sales and team leading. Be in charge of all shop floor operations and emails. Be confident in selling our key brands (Brompton, Cannondale, Trek, Basso and Tern). Have a good understanding of current P&A as well as great mechanical skills (Cytech 1 or equivalent experience preferable). Take full accountability for key holding, housekeeping, and deliveries. Champion our products by delivering an excellent experience, be a role model and brand ambassador, energising your team to drive sales to meet and exceed store KPI’s. Manage warranty requests.

As a Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day store operations, managing and supporting the team, and ensuring the store provides excellent customer service. You’ll work to meet sales targets, maintain stock levels, and ensure that the store is a welcoming space for all customers.
Key responsibilities for this role include leading and managing a team to meet sales goals and deliver excellent customer service. Oversee store operations including stock management, visual merchandising, and maintaining store standards. Ensure smooth day-to-day operations, addressing any issues that arise. Provide training and support for the team, ensuring staff are motivated and knowledgeable. Maintain high standards of store presentation and cleanliness.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a bicycle mechanic, servicing and repairing bikes in a busy workshop. That includes serving customers, servicing bikes, carrying out warranty work, building bikes, talking to customers to ascertain their needs and booking in service jobs. Or have significant mechanical knowledge gained through work carried out on personal bikes to a high standard.
