Hope Technology unveils the EVO Brake Range

Hope Technology has announced the release of the new Evo brake range, available from September.

At Hope Technology, we’re renowned for making components that last. After four
years. Our test-winning brake, the Tech 4, was due for an update—not a reinvention,
but a refinement – Hope

Hope says the new EVO is a step up in braking performance, with updates to both the master cylinder and callipers. According to Hope, the EVO delivers improved control, power, and serviceability across cross-country, trail, and gravity disciplines: “You’ll notice familiar names from our existing lineup—a deliberate move to make choosing the right brake easier than ever.”

Here are more details from the release:

The Three Options:

EVO GR4 – 4 Piston Gravity Brake

Maximum power, zero compromise. Engineered for gravity and e-bike use, the one-piece GR4 calliper features a stiffer one-piece body, larger pistons (6% more power vs Tech 4 V4), and a slimmer profile for better frame compatibility. They are deliberately not compatible with vented rotors to maximise calliper stiffness and performance.

EVO TR4 – 4 Piston Trail Brake

Trail-proven power with balanced modulation. The one-piece TR4 calliper with larger pistons and shared GR4 pads delivers a 6.5% increase in braking ratio over the previous E4 system—ideal for trail and all-mountain use.

EVO X2 – 2 Piston XC Brake

Lightweight, smooth, and precise. The EVO X2 pairs the new EVO master cylinder with the X2 calliper for riders who prioritise lever feel and control over sheer power, ideal for cross-country and lighter duty use.

Engineered for the real world

The Master cylinder features a new cam mechanism to reduce free stroke while maintaining the feel and modulation, a key feature of the much-loved Tech 4. The piston assembly features a secondary guide bush and sliding guide, ensuring ultrasmooth operation throughout the full lever stroke.

The calliper bodies have been refined for greater stiffness, improved hub/frame compatibility, and streamlined profiles. Bore cap designs are optimised to reduce width and improve fit across modern frame geometries.

Key updates:

– 3 Lever blade options: Standard, Control & Power. (Control and Power are after-market purchases.)

– Ergonomics: Redesigned lever with increased hook and new dimple texture for maximum grip and control in all conditions.

– Improved Modulation: New cam design and piston improvements deliver firmer bite point and improved feel throughout the braking zone.

– Smooth and Predictable Lever Feel: Upgraded internal piston mechanics and roller-bearing pivots ensure consistent performance and feel.

– Simplified Bleeding & Maintenance: A new master cylinder bleed port allows clean, tool-efficient bleeding without lid removal.

– Improved Pad Wear Consistency: Calliper tweaks to improve brake feel across the entire pad lifespan.

As with all our products, the EVO Brakes have been designed, tested, and manufactured in the UK. In keeping with the Tech 4 Brakes, they will be available in either black or silver, with coloured accents in the standard Hope colours.
