Cycling Weekly has appointed Andy Carr as tech editor. The former founder and CEO of Spoon Group Limited, which brought together two brands creating bespoke custom bikes, will lead the tech team in providing expert reviews, news and buying advice to Cycling Weekly’s audience.
Carr brings a decade of experience working within the bike industry, designing and developing award-winning bikes and cycling products for Spoon Customs and Wyndymilla, as well as prior experience in communications roles.
Based in Norfolk, Carr will be reviewing bikes and equipment himself, as well as commissioning all tech team reviews and freelance contributions to the 134-year-old brand. He’ll also be the point of contact for all tech launches and news announcements, and work on features and news stories for both CyclingWeekly.com and the print magazine.
Fierce competition in our industry drives wonderful innovation, but it can also be a minefield for consumers. Having spent most of the last ten years studying what makes a good bike great, I hope I can help demystify some of the complexity in cycling tech to give readers a peek behind the curtain, and ultimately get more from their cycling experience. To be trusted to do that at Cycling Weekly, a globally trusted brand that’s been part of my cycling world since I was a child, is amazing – Andy Carr.
Digital Editor, Michelle Arthurs-Brennan, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Andy to the tech team at Cycling Weekly. Andy’s tech knowledge is second to none, and his hands-on experience working in the industry will complement the strengths of our expert journalists.
“I know Andy is brimming with ideas for new features, and his contact book is loaded with everyone he needs to bring those ideas to life. We can’t wait to get started!”
Carr joins the Cycling Weekly tech team after a record year of e-commerce success. In 2024, the site increased the sales order value of goods purchased through its affiliate partners by 55% and saw a 58% increase in transactions directly from its buying guides, reviews and deals pages.
In light of the growing opportunities here, and even stronger targets for 2025, Cycling Weekly has restructured its tech team, with buying guides now coming under the management of Senior E-commerce Editor, Sam Tremlett, supported by in-house Tech and E-commerce writer Matt Ischt-Barnard. This will allow the website to grow this valuable revenue stream, whilst giving new joiner Carr the space to develop feature-driven tech content and breaking tech news from the WorldTour race scene.
