Campagnolo presents new Super Record 13 groupset

Campagnolo has launched its new Super Record 13, the first road groupset equipped with a 2×13 derailleur, with the flagship groupset sporting a completely redesigned look, feel, and performance.

At launch, the brand points out that not only is this the world’s first wireless 2×13 speed derailleur for road cycling, but also the first groupset starting a general redefinition of the brand’s identity.

No half measures here, then.

Indeed, the launch announcement goes on to start that the Super Record 13 groupset marks the beginning of “a new strategy – in line with Campagnolo’s legacy of innovation – which, in the near future, will witness the Vicenza-based company launch a complete line of products designed to cover the various market segments.”

The new Super Record 13 groupset is claimed to be the “fastest on the market”, as well as being “capable of offering a greater choice of gear ratios that allows you to find the best pedalling cadence”.

Headline grabbing details

Campagnolo points out that the strength of the new Super Record 13 “lies in the chain motion path along the gear scale, which has been optimized in order to obtain the most immediate, smoothest and fastest gear change possible”. We’re told this means “the new Super Record 13 is faster than any 12-speed groupset on the market today.”

There are now seven configurations available, up to a 16-tooth gear spacing, “to meet the needs of every cyclist”, spanning 45/29, 48/32, 50/34, 52/36, 53/39, 54/39 and 55/39, and, combined with the four cassettes, “represent the most complete and well-structured offer available on the market today”.

The cranks, in exposed carbon fiber, are available in the lengths of 165 mm, 170 mm, 172.5 mm and 175 mm and have a Q Factor of 148.5 mm. The two titanium bottom bracket semi-axles are integral with the crank arms (Ultra Torque system).

With much made of the ergonomics when competitors have launched new versions of their respective flagship road groupsets, Campagnolo points out that “technological innovation has been combined with the study of advanced ergonomics for the controls with the aim of becoming a “benchmark” for the industry: a new design ensures superior driving control and more intuitive management of functions in all hand-rest positions on the handlebars.”

What Campy fans everywhere will want to know

Straight from the horses mouth:

“With the new Super Record 13, the Campagnolo internal button, now renamed “Thumb Shifter”, has been revisited: it is not a return to the past, but a solution that offers greater grip control using a lever with a minimal profile, easy to operate from different positions.”

Launch details make mention of weight – highlighting a 6 gram saving for the brake body , now made of forged aluminum and coming with two new titanium retention screws – but don’t actually provide a groupset total weight: Something that will frustrate, as much as the return of thumb shifters will delight.

The new Super Record 13 Road will be available as of June 2025.
