Bavarian e-bike motor business TQ has announced the introduction of its TQ-HPR60 motor, retaining the same small form factor and similar light weight, whilst boosting torque by 10Nm, and power by 50W – a 17% increase.
Those familiar with the TQ-HPR50 predecessor will know the motor was popular for the ‘almost analogue’ bike riding experience it enabled bike brands to deliver, whilst still delivering a positive ‘assisted’ ride when needed.
In short, the new TQ-HPR60 delivers more torque and power. At the same time, the brand has “significantly improved efficiency, further reduced noise levels, and optimised cooling, ensuring that the motor consistently performs at its best even under continuous operation.”
Comments regarding cooling also see the brand directly address the one area in which the previous TQ-HPR50 could, in certain circumstances, come up short.
Headline numbers
- Drive unit: 350W. 60Nm. 200% support. 1.924 grams in weight. 3 modes + walk assist.
- Battery options: 290Wh (1,460 grams). 360Wh (1,835 grams). 580Wh (2,695 grams).
A 160Wh range extender is also offered, which, TQ points out, “can operate the HPR60 independently.” 500ml water bottle sized, and weighing in at 960 grams, the range extender is said to have all the features of the other batteries.”
Talking specifically about the battery, TQ points out that it has developed what it sees as the “ideal compromise between weight and range.” Here, TQ points to use of the “latest cell technology with maximum capacity.”
The brand claims the “highest energy density on the market”, as well as the “best ratio of weight to capacity in its class”. As we’ve come to expect, energy consumption is controlled and optimised by software, whilst the battery management system (BMS) “protects the cells and ensures optimal performance and long lifespan”.
Everything that made TQ stand out – but more of it.
- Smallest, lightest, and quietest system in its class
- Nearly invisible integration
- Natural riding feel
- Highest torque density on the market
- Compressed to the essentials for a pure riding experience
- Focus on optimal power-to-weight ratio and Maximum efficiency rather than just peak performance
Unlike full-power e-bikes, the HPR60 focuses on giving riders a boosted experience with “no unnecessary weight, no overloaded technology – just pure riding pleasure, reduced to the essentials”.
These strengths mean TQ systems are found on bikes in almost all segments – Urban, Trekking, Gravel, Road, and MTB – and are now in use in over 60 models worldwide.
In the UK, TQ is supported by Silverfish, with the distributor the officially appointed service partner.
