NEW HORIZONS

Revelyst has announced the expansion of its dealer-direct and direct-to-consumer model for the Giro and Bell brands in the UK. BikeBiz catches up with senior UK country manager Robert Robinson to discuss the changes

In October 2023, Vista Outdoor’s Outdoor Products Segment — which contains Bell, Giro, Fox Racing and other bike-related brands — unveiled a new name when it spun off from the rest of the company.

The new name is Revelyst, Inc., which the company said combines “revel” and “catalyst.”

Revelyst, which is headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, is led by CEO Eric Nyman, who joined Vista initially as CEO of the Outdoor Products Segment.

REVELYST LOGO

At the time of the announcement, Nyman commented: “We are excited and proud to introduce Revelyst to the world.

“Revelyst is a collective of maker brands united by an obsession with craftsmanship, a consumer-first culture and helping people achieve their greatest outdoor aspirations. We will leverage operational expertise, shared financial resources and cross-collaboration to deliver products and technologies that support consumers in wide ranges of pursuits.

“While today we are best known by the innovations that we make, our journey to becoming the greatest house of brands in the outdoor industry is focused on the wildly human experiences that we make possible.”

Fast forward to now and changes are now afoot for Revelyst brands on these shores.

Both Giro and Bell are joining Fox Racing as part of Revelyst’s expansion of a dealer-direct and direct-to-consumer model.

Mountain biker racing in mountainous landscape

“Switching to a customer-centric model is a transformative step in our mission to bring the world-class design and innovation of Giro and Bell closer to our UK audience,” said Jeff McGuane, Revelyst’s Adventure Sports President.

“We are grateful for our collaboration with our partners over the years, and this evolution reflects our vision to deliver a more tailored and engaging experience for our customers.”

BikeBiz staff writer Simon Cox took the opportunity to grab five minutes with senior UK country manager Robert Robinson to talk about how this will impact retailers, the changing state of retail, and what plans are in the works for both brands.

Revelyst may be a new name for many people reading this, can you tell us a little bit about the company and the new setup?

Revelyst is the US-based parent company for more than 30 respected brands that design, manufacture and market performance gear for the outdoor world.

PICTURE 1 6 e1737673833963 Revelyst Goes Direct: A New Era for Giro & Bell in the UK

In recent times here in the UK that has meant Fox Racing, but from Jan 1, 2025, that will also include Giro Sport Design and Bell Helmets. Two amazing world-class brands that have global respect and are industry leaders.

They are great additions to our portfolio, and with them both being under our umbrella as brands in themselves, rather than through a distributor, it will mean greater focus and integration for both of them.

The retail landscape and consumer habits are constantly changing. How does this affect the way that you work?

Yes, consumer buying habits have changed considerably over the last few years.

With Fox, we have a huge focus on a Direct-to-Dealer model where the stores get a true brand experience and direct support.

Physical ‘brick and mortar’ stores are the key to our success, and we will continue this with Giro and Bell, whilst using the same multi-channel approach that we already do with Fox.

Do you have a new team of people coming in to work on the Giro and Bell brands?

At Fox our background is in mountain bike and motocross, so we have made sure that our new hires bring with them a deep knowledge and understanding of road and gravel cycling, especially for Giro.

Christine Reeday will cover the North and Matt Wallis is covering the South for the new channels. Our Fox MTB team Sean Deere, Chris Sage and Tommy Milner will head up MTB for all brands. It’s a dedicated team that love cycling.

We’ve recently opened a new UK-based 5,000m/2 warehouse that is managed for us by a worldwide leader in third-party logistics.

We also have our permanent showroom that’s located just outside of Gloucester where we have the complete Giro, Bell and Fox ranges on display.

At key times throughout the year we have a steady stream of dealers visiting, viewing the next season’s ranges and placing forward orders.

So with no distributor, you ‘are the brand’?

Absolutely. We are the brand. We’ll be bringing the complete Giro and Bell ranges. For Bell that is helmets, and for Giro that is everything from helmets, to shoes and apparel.

As a group we now have three helmet brands which could be confusing, but each brand has a unique offering and identity that appeals to certain shops, and sections of the market and their buying habits.

What’s coming up for Revelyst over the next few months?

Our team will be out on the road visiting stores as we look to create our Bell and Giro network. We already have a strong and established Fox network across the UK and Ireland.

The team will be building and segmenting this in the coming months, alongside expanded community initiatives and events designed to celebrate and support the UK cycling communities and retailers.

Revelyst has announced the expansion of its dealer-direct and direct-to-consumer (DTC) model for the Giro and Bell brands in the United Kingdom.

This decision marks a significant evolution of a multichannel approach with the brands.

Fox Racing, Giro Sport Design and Bell Helmets will engage directly with UK retailers and consumers aiming to be “the partner of choice”.

This move has enabled the growth of both the selling and customer experience teams based in-country.

From January 2025, Revelyst will directly oversee the sale and distribution of Giro (bike and snow) and Bell (bike and powersports) products within the UK.

“Switching to a customer centric model is a transformative step in our mission to bring the world-class design and innovation of Giro and Bell closer to our UK audience,” said Jeff McGuane, Revelyst’s adventure sports president.

“We are grateful for our collaboration with our partners over the years, and this evolution reflects our vision to deliver a more tailored and engaging experience for our customers.”

By adopting the distribution model, Revelyst aims to provide UK consumers with an improved shopping experience, increased access to the full range of Giro and Bell products, exclusive product launches, and enhanced customer support.

Revelyst will be introducing direct channels for support, education, and engagement, ensuring customers have the information they need to select the best products for their needs.

Since August 2024 Revelyst has operated and served the UK market with Fox Racing on a 5,000 sqm logistic centre, managed by a 3PL.

According to the firm, this supports a high level of service and quick replenishment which all Revelyst UK partners can expect in the future.

A spokesperson for Revelyst added: “The transition is aligned with broader global trends in consumer behavior, where direct connections between brands and customers are increasingly valued.

“Revelyst is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition, working closely with existing dealers to minimise any disruptions and guarantee continued access to Giro and Bell products during the changeover.”

UK retailers and customers can expect further developments in the coming months, including the launch of refreshed e-commerce platforms for both Giro and Bell, alongside expanded community initiatives and events with the UK cycling, snow and powersports communities.

Giro Sport Design has announced the launch of the Aries Spherical helmet.

The Aries gives riders the added protection of Spherical Technology powered by MIPS. It also debuts Giro’s new DryCore sweat management system, which utilises an internal silicone bead to redirect moisture away from the rider’s brow and eliminate sweat dripping into the eyes.

The Giro Aries Spherical is available immediately from UK retailers, at a price of £289.99.

Peter Nicholson, Giro brand manager, said: “A new high-end road helmet from Giro always is big news, but the Aries Spherical is like nothing before. As cycling helmet gains become incremental, Giro engineers truly make the difference with all the resources at their disposal here in Scotts Valley at our DOME R&D facility. The DOME is unrivaled, from our in-house wind tunnel, to the Therminator – our one-of-a-kind heat-sensing head form – to our more than 50 test fixtures.

“We’ve been leading helmet science for almost 40 years, and it’s all led up to a helmet that virtually disappears when you start riding yet manages to receive the best score Virginia Tech has ever given in their rankings of which helmets best reduce the risk of injury.”

The Aries’ smaller form and lighter weight (only 265 grams in size medium, CE certification), delivers sensational comfort and cooling power. Spherical Technology, Giro’s ball-and-socket design powered by Mips, adds protection by redirecting energy away from the brain in certain impacts, and Progressive Layering with dual densities of Nanobead EPS foam adds more comprehensive energy management. 24 Wind Tunnel vents are maximised by the AURA II Reinforcement Arch, while a plush DryCore brow pad manages sweat and combines with a network of intricately engineered deep internal channeling to elevate comfort.

The Aries Spherical is available in six colorways and in sizes S, M, and L.

Giro Sport Design has released the Latch, a new all-mountain flat pedal shoe.

The shoe incorporates Mute Foam midsole technology and a Tack Rubber outer sole compound that work together to increase foot to pedal contact, grip, and rider stability, said Giro. It also features a breathable microfiber upper, hydrophobic structural inners, and minimal seams and stitching. It is available immediately from authorised Giro retailers and www.giro.com for £124.99.

“Latch is a culmination of years of R&D to develop the absolute best flat pedal shoe on the market,” said Peter Curran, Giro footwear product manager. “We wanted to make an all-mountain shoe that would absolutely excel on the descents, while still performing on the climbs and being comfortable enough for long days on the trail. With Latch, riders get a shoe that does just that while also being durable, lightweight, and breathable.”

Mute Foam was developed directly with feedback from riders like Reed Boggs, Josh “Loose Dog” Lewis, and Graham Agassiz, who related a common experience of getting bounced off the pedals while riding rocky and rough trails, said Giro. Just like mountain bike suspension’s primary job is to keep a rider’s wheels in contact with the ground and in control, Mute Foam performs a similar function between the foot and the pedal. Mute Foam’s slow rebound characteristics are in contrast to typical EVA foam, and provide a balance between structure and damping properties.

Tack Rubber delivers a sticky, yet durable outsole grip needed to hold onto the pedals in the roughest of terrain. Tack Rubber’s elastic characteristics enable the sole to contour slightly to the pedal on a downstroke and while descending. With Giro’s Gamma tread pattern on the outer sole, the increased negative space between the tread lugs allows pedal pins to nestle while the chamfered and sloped edges of the lugs prevent the pins from getting hooked up.
