London Cycling Campaign, Lime and Loud Mobility’s ‘Share The Joy’ community grants programme marks first anniversary

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) and Lime and Loud Mobility‘s Share The Joy community grants programme, established to support grassroots cycling projects across London, today marked its first anniversary with the announcement of its fourth round of funding.

In this latest round, 20 organisations fostering inclusive cycling across 16 London boroughs received a total of £49,450. Recipients include groups like the Haringey Schools Cycling LeagueWomen of Colour Cycling Collective, and Ride For Freedom, among others.

This latest round brings the total awarded by the Share The Joy fund to £161,678, supporting over 58 grassroots cycling organisations in its inaugural year.

Talking about the impact of Share The Joy funding, Cai Wang, Women of Colour Cycling Collective Trustee, stated: “We’re seeing more and more women of colour on bikes in the capital, which is a joyous thing to witness. Even more so knowing we’re part of the effort to make it happen in the first place.

“One of our members went from learning how to ride to taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride, all in the space of three months, thanks to a programme part-funded by our Share the Joy grant. It’s so rewarding to have played a part in such an achievement, and we’re working hard to make sure more women from under-represented backgrounds get the chance to have these sorts of experiences.”

Areas of specific focus

Share The Joy grants are awarded to groups and projects that demonstrate potential in one of three key categories: Health & Wellbeing, Accessibility & Inclusion, or Skills & Connectivity.

Within these categories, priority is given to projects that support groups currently underrepresented in cycling or those that may face challenges in accessing traditional funding sources.

Celebrating a year in review

A one-year Share The Joy celebration event, held in Southwark on the 17th July, featured a guest panel discussing cycling diversity, the growth of dockless hire and the vital role in increasing cycling and cycling diversity in London.

In attendance on the night were the London Walking & Cycling Commissioner, Dr Will Norman, London Borough of Hounslow Portfolio holder for Environment, Climate Change and Transport, Cllr Katherine Dunne and the Chair of the Women of Colour Cycling Collective, as well as attendees and representatives of the funded organisations.

Speaking about the anniversary, Alice Pleasant, Senior Public Affairs Manager, Lime, comments: “One year on since the launch of the fund, we are delighted to be celebrating an incredible year of backing London’s grassroots cycling projects. These community organisations play a crucial role in fostering a more inclusive cycling landscape across our city.

“This latest round of funding reflects our continued commitment to encourage more Londoners to get cycling, especially those from underrepresented groups. We can’t wait to see the continued positive impact of these projects in the next year and beyond.”

London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is a charity with more than 20,000 supporters, of whom more than 11,000 are fully paid-up members. We speak up on behalf of everyone who cycles or wants to cycle in Greater London; and we speak up for a greener, healthier, happier and better-connected capital.

“London loves cycling – and as the network of safe cycle routes and cycle hire expands to more areas of London, more and more Londoners are able to share the joy of cycling. Lime’s funding is enabling diverse community projects to help more Londoners to embrace cycling, and London Cycling Campaign are proud to help get more of London pedalling.” Tom Fyans, Chief Executive, London Cycling Campaign
