Selle Italia is launching a new SLR range, timed to mark the Maratona dles Dolomites, which Giuseppe Bigolin, President of Selle Italia, describes as “an evolution, not a revolution”.
The fourth generation of the SLR launches with a three-model line-up, with the saddles in the range “all retaining the shape, and consequently the type of seat, that has made the 1999-launched original model famous and instantly recognisable.”
The new SLR range: the features
One of the first new features for the 2025 range is the change in length: 242 millimetres, 6 millimetres shorter than the previous model, and close to the UCI regulation limit.
The decision to shorten the saddle length is “complemented by a redesigned padding profile, now minimal and more compact at the rear, an area shown by idmatch Pressure Map analysis to be largely unused and with little impact on overall riding comfort.”
The sitting point (where the ischial bones make contact) remains unchanged, and the BRP (Biomechanical Reference Point) also stays in the same position as in previous versions, ensuring a consistent feel and a seamless transition from the older model.
All the new versions are lighter than their predecessors, plus the frame has been upgraded, especially in the carbon rail versions, sporting “a more efficient layup and redesigned shapes that improve vibration absorption without compromising structural strength.”
The stack between the BRP and front insertion point of the rail in the shell has been increased by 4 millimetres to provide enhanced adjustment.
Aesthetically, the new SLR “showcases a sleek, minimalist all-black design that aligns seamlessly with the new styling of modern road bikes.” Retailers and riders alike will see details of model and size, in grey, on the saddle cover.
Launch models
The SLR range launches with three versions, with additional variations set to be released in September to complete the line-up:
- SLR 3D CARBON
Weighing just 137 grams in the S3 size, the new SLR 3D CARBON sets a new weight standard as the lightest 3D-printed saddle on the market. This new model with a carbon frame weighs 29 grams less than the previous SLR Boost 3D Kit Carbonio. It retains the classic SLR shape and is made with Carbon DLS technology that creates differentiated cushioning areas. Recommended retail price: €449.90 – £409.99
- SLR 3D ELITE
The SLR 3D Elite version has a lightweight tubular steel frame. In the S3 size, it weighs 28 grams less than the previous SLR Boost 3D TI316 model. More specifically, the model in the S3 size weighs 172 grams while the L3 size weighs 178 grams. The cover has been developed with Carbon DLS technology. Recommended retail price: €359.90 – £329.99
- SLR CARBON
The Carbon rail model features hand-covered padding, giving the saddle with an artisanal look. Available in three sizes (with or without the cut-out), weighing just 118 grams in the S3 size, four grams less than the previous model. Recommended retail price: €319.90 – £289.99
